Beati omnes qui timent

This motet for double choir (SATTB.SATTB) sets a Latin text from Psalm 127, a Song of Ascents, often sung at special occasions or significant life events. Vecchi’s setting begins by blessing those who fear the Lord and walk in His ways, painting a rich domestic scene. It describes the blessings of hard work, a fruitful marriage symbolised by a vine, and children like olive shoots surrounding a table. The motet culminates in a prayer for God's blessing from Zion, invoking prosperity and the sight of Jerusalem's welfare throughout a long life, and the joy of seeing children and grandchildren, bringing peace to Israel.
