Beata Viscera by Gregor Aichinger — Lyrics
About Beata Viscera
Gregor Aichinger’s Beata Viscera is a sacred motet for SATB choir, sung in Latin. The music opens with a gentle flowing texture, before moving to more homophonic passages that clearly articulate the devotional text. The lyrics meditate on the blessedness of the Virgin Mary’s womb and breast, which carried and nourished the Son of God. They also celebrate the sanctified day of Christ’s birth, calling all peoples to adore the Lord. The motet concludes with a verse drawn from Psalm 44, expressing the composer's heartfelt praise for God's word and works.
