About Ave Virgo Gloriosa
This jubilant eight-part Latin motet celebrates the Virgin Mary. The text expresses praise for her unique conception, her coronation as Queen of Heaven, and her role as the mother of Christ who aids humanity. It extols her purity, calling her the 'rose without a thorn' and 'star of the sea', and asks for her intercession to guide us to eternal joy. Asola's setting for double SATB choir reflects the grandeur of the text, offering rich choral textures and a powerful devotional experience.
