About Ave verum corpus
The familiar Latin text Ave verum corpus, a contemplation of Christ's suffering and sacrifice, is here set by Gemignano Capilupi for a rich SSATTB choir. The text, a Marian antiphon, movingly describes Christ's sacrifice on the cross and pleads for comfort in death. Capilupi’s setting captures the solemnity and devotion inherent in these words, offering a profound musical expression of faith. This motet is suited for unaccompanied choral performance, allowing the intricate vocal lines and resonant harmonies to convey the sacred message with clarity and emotional depth.
