About Ave verum corpus
This devotional SATB motet is suitable for services during Lent, Holy Week, or Corpus Christi. Franciszek Walczyński sets the familiar Latin text of the Ave verum corpus, a meditation on the true body of Christ, born of the Virgin Mary, who suffered and was sacrificed for humankind. The composer evokes the profound mystery of the Eucharist and the sacrifice on the cross. The text speaks of the flowing of blood and water from Christ's pierced side and concludes with a plea for mercy and a foretaste of eternal life. Walczyński's setting is a heartfelt expression of faith, suitable for liturgical occasions and as a contemplative choral offering.
