About Ave Rex noster
Francesco Stivori’s Ave Rex noster is a powerful motet for double choir (SSATTBB) with a Latin text. It would be most appropriate for services during Passiontide or Holy Week, lamenting Christ’s suffering. The text opens with a greeting to Christ the King, acknowledging his suffering for humanity’s errors. He is depicted as obedient, led to crucifixion like a meek lamb to the slaughter. The motet concludes with acclamations of glory, hosanna, triumph, and victory, culminating in a crown of highest praise and honour for the suffering king.
