About Ave maris stella III
This anonymous setting of the Marian antiphon Ave maris stella is arranged for three voices (STT). The familiar Latin text, a prayer to Mary as the star of the sea, Mother of God, and ever-Virgin, asks for her intercession. It petitions her to change Eve's name, grant peace, release the guilty from their chains, bring light to the blind, and ward off evil. The text implores Mary to show herself a mother and accept prayers, so that those born for us and destined to be hers may be seen by Jesus and rejoice eternally. The motet concludes with praise to the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
