Ave Maria by SIMON LINDLEY — Lyrics
About Ave Maria
Simon Lindley’s setting of the "Ave Maria" is a gentle and deeply reverent choral piece that brings a quiet grace to any liturgy. Marked *Andante cantabile*, the music flows with a singing, lyrical quality that perfectly suits the traditional Latin prayer to the Blessed Virgin Mary. The arrangement opens with a delicate treble solo, offering the first lines of the angelic salutation in a moment of intimate devotion, before the full choir enters to echo and expand on the prayer.
For a choir, this piece shines during Marian feast days, the month of October, or as a peaceful meditation during Communion. The transition from the solo voice to the rich, harmonised SATB texture allows the singers to build a sense of communal petition, especially as they reach the plea "Sancta Maria, Mater Dei, ora pro nobis" (Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us). It is a moving, prayerful anthem that invites both the singers and the congregation into a space of quiet reflection.
