About Ave Maria
The interplay between the three female voices in Peter Piel's Ave Maria creates a flowing and devotional texture. Set in Latin, this sacred work takes its text from the traditional Ave Maria prayer. The composer focuses on the gentle unfolding of the words, with the SSA voicing allowing for rich harmonies and expressive melodic lines. The music reflects the serene and reverent nature of the text, which praises the Virgin Mary. It is a piece suited for services and moments of reflection, where the clear vocal writing can be fully appreciated.
