Aspice nos, Deus by Alexander Utendal — Lyrics
About Aspice nos, Deus
Alexander Utendal was a composer active in the late Renaissance. This sacred motet, Aspice nos, Deus, is written for SSAATB choir. The Latin text is a plea for divine protection in times of adversity, asking God to watch over us from his holy seat and guard his people through his wonders. The choir is asked to be protected from the fear of earthquakes and other adversities, and to remain devoted to God's name through good works. The setting reflects the solemnity and earnestness of the prayer, with rich vocal textures suitable for a skilled choir.
