Guillaume Dufay's motet Apostolo glorioso da dio electo celebrates Saint Andrew, one of Christ's apostles. The Italian text hails him as a glorious chosen apostle who evangelized the Greek people, bringing them the news of God's incarnation. It recounts his preaching and martyrdom, mentioning his crucifixion on a cross, his choice of Patras as his place of rest, and a sacred cave as his tomb. The composer's setting for five voices (SAAAT) offers a rich texture for this devotional text, typical of Dufay's masterful sacred compositions from the 15th century.
