About Anima mea
Giovanni Giacomo Arrigoni was a composer of sacred music in the early Baroque period. His motet Anima mea sets a devotional Latin text expressing the soul's longing for Jesus. The music reflects the yearning and plea for divine mercy, with sections of fervent supplication alongside moments of gentle reassurance. The text moves from the soul's deep desire and cries to God, through a plea for cleansing, to a hopeful ascent towards God's holy mountain. This setting for a solo voice (B) is a direct and intimate musical prayer.
