Agnus Christus

This setting of a Latin text is suitable for Lent or Holy Week, lamenting the solitary suffering of Christ on the cross. The composer contrasts the disciples' failure to stand by Jesus with his own ultimate sacrifice for all humanity. The STTB voicing is ideal for a rich, devotional sound, and the composer’s musical setting directly reflects the poignant text, emphasizing Christ’s bearing of our sorrows alone. It is a powerful devotional motet for contemplation during the solemn liturgical season.
