Emma Atuanya’s setting of the "Agnus Dei" brings a gentle but moving forward energy to the fraction rite. Marked quasi allegro on the score, this piece moves with a steady, walking pace rather than a slow lament. It is sung just before Communion as the priest breaks the Eucharistic bread, drawing the congregation into the ancient Latin plea for the Lamb of God to have mercy on us.

The arrangement is straightforward and highly effective for a four-part choir. After the familiar opening invocations of "qui tollis peccata mundi," the final section opens up into a cascading repetition of "dona nobis pacem." For a choir, mastering the rhythmic flow of the solfa notation here is key to keeping the piece light and prayerful.
