Adupe by Chaninomi A.-E. Joseph — Lyrics
About Adupe
"Adupe" is a vibrant Yoruba song of thanksgiving that calls the congregation to recognize God's endless goodness. The title translates to "We give thanks," and the music reflects that exact sentiment—joyful, rhythmic, and full of gratitude. It is a wonderful choice for the Offertory or any moment of thanksgiving during Mass, where the choir and the people bring their praises and gifts to the altar.
The verses beautifully articulate reasons for gratitude, acknowledging God as the source of all life ("Gbogbo iye ti a ni laye"). The second verse, led by a tenor solo, gives thanks for blessings past, present, and future, before the full choir joins to invoke the Holy Trinity to accept our praise. The final section builds into a lively ostinato, layering titles of God like "Eledumare" and "Olugbala" in a rich, polyphonic texture that brings the piece to a rousing close.
