About Ad te Levavi (Tract)

This sacred motet sets a Latin text from the liturgy, a prayer of supplication to God. The words express a profound turning towards the divine, eyes lifted in hope and expectation. The verses speak of humble service, comparing the devotion of servants to their masters to our own turning towards the Lord until He shows us mercy. Isaac’s setting for SATB voices is a powerful musical interpretation of this deeply felt plea. The SATB texture allows for rich harmonies and expressive lines, drawing the listener into the solemnity and heartfelt yearning of the original text. It is a fitting piece for services or concerts where devotion and spiritual reflection are paramount.
