ZADOK THE PRIEST

Handel’s "Zadok the Priest" is a monumental piece in the choral repertoire, and mastering it is a proud milestone for any choir. Originally composed as a coronation anthem, its majestic progression and triumphant vocal entries make it a favorite for grand celebrations, concerts, and special thanksgiving services in our parishes.

The anthem unfolds in three distinct movements. It begins with the solemn, building declaration of "Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet," before bursting into the lively, dancing rhythm of "And all the people rejoic'd." Finally, the choir unites for the resounding, majestic chords of "God save the King," layered with intricate, cascading "Allelujahs" and "Amens" that demand strong breath control and precise timing from every voice part.
