Yamba, Yamba, Yamba Yahwe / Kumba Bella by Raphael Mario Nnoka — Lyrics
About Yamba, Yamba, Yamba Yahwe / Kumba Bella
"Yamba, Yamba, Yamba Yahwe" and "Kumba Bella" are two vibrant traditional pieces from the Congo region, often paired together to create a lively Offertory procession. "Yamba" is a joyful plea for the Lord to receive our offerings—our gifts, our sacrifices, and ourselves. With its driving rhythm and repetitive, building structure, it naturally lifts the congregation's spirit as the bread and wine are brought to the altar.
The second part of this arrangement, "Kumba Bella," continues that infectious momentum. Harmonised by Raphael Mario Nnoka, it brings an energetic Central African choral feel straight into the choir loft. When the cantor calls out the soaring "Iye," the choir's layered response of "Iye mambella" creates a rich, rhythmic texture that fills the church with celebration. It is a perfect choice for feast days or any Sunday when the choir wants to lead the parish in truly exuberant thanksgiving.
