THE TRUMPET (The Champions - UEFA Anthem) by Tony Britten — Lyrics
About THE TRUMPET (The Champions - UEFA Anthem)
What happens when a choir takes one of the most recognizable melodies in modern sports and turns it toward the heavens? "The Trumpet" is a brilliant adaptation of Tony Britten's UEFA Champions League Anthem—which itself draws from Handel's majestic coronation anthem, Zadok the Priest—reimagined here by the STACC Choir at FUTO. Instead of earthly athletes, this arrangement sings of the ultimate victory at the end of time.
The lyrics transform the familiar, regal chords into a powerful proclamation of the Second Coming. As the organ swells, the choir announces that "the trumpet shall be heard on high," leading to a triumphant declaration that the dead in Christ will rise to meet the Lord. The famous climax, where crowds usually cheer for football stars, is cleverly rewritten to crown the righteous as the true "Champions" of faith.
This is a spectacular choice for a choir concert, a youth rally, or a special non-liturgical presentation. It carries a massive element of surprise—the moment the audience recognizes the iconic progression, their ears will perk up, only to be moved by the profound message of salvation and heavenly reward.
