About Si Amen

"Si Amen" is a magnificent, high-energy Igbo choral anthem that draws its text directly from the heavenly worship described in Revelation 7:12. The title itself is a joyful command to the choir and congregation alike: "Say Amen!" From the very first ritornello, the piece establishes a vibrant, rhythmic momentum that carries the singers through a grand litany of praise, echoing the angels' song before the throne of God.

As the anthem unfolds, the choir systematically lifts up the sevenfold attributes of God mentioned in the scripture. The voices weave together to declare that ngozi (blessing), otuto (glory), amamihe (wisdom), ekele (thanksgiving), nsopuru (honor), ike (power), and ume (might) belong to the Lord forever. Sir Sam Ojukwu's arrangement uses the full force of the choir, building layer upon layer of polyphony. The sopranos soar with the melody while the lower voices provide a driving, rhythmic foundation, especially in the energetic coda where the repeated call of "Sinu Amen o mgbe nile" creates an irresistible groove.

Because of its sheer scale and jubilant mood, this piece is a favorite for major feast days, harvest thanksgivings, and grand celebrations in the Nigerian church. It serves brilliantly as a recessional hymn, sending the congregation out with a resounding, joyful declaration of God's eternal majesty. When the final "Amen" rings out from the choir loft, it leaves a lasting echo of triumph.
