Sanctify

"Sanctify" is a gentle, straightforward Offertory hymn that speaks directly to the heart of the Eucharistic preparation. When the choir sings this piece, we give voice to the congregation's offering, asking God to take the simple, earthly elements of bread and wine and make them holy. The lyrics are an earnest prayer, acknowledging that what we bring is "the hand made of man," yet trusting in God's power to transform it.

Ezeigwe Chidi’s arrangement uses a classic verse structure that flows naturally into a layered refrain. The verses carry a steady, petitionary melody, while the refrain opens up with the different voice parts echoing the plea to sanctify and purify the gifts. It works wonderfully for the presentation of the gifts, keeping the focus entirely on the altar and the sacred mystery about to unfold.
