ONYENWEANYI MEE EBERE

"Onyenweanyi Mee Ebere" is a humble and direct setting of the Kyrie, sung during the Penitential Rite of the Mass. Composed by Okoli Kingsley, this piece uses the traditional Igbo translation of "Lord, have mercy" to draw the congregation into a moment of quiet reflection and repentance before the Liturgy of the Word begins.

Written entirely in solfa notation, the arrangement is straightforward for choirs to learn and harmonize. As the voices layer the pleas of "Onyenweanyi" (Lord) and "Kristi" (Christ), the music creates a gentle, reverent atmosphere in the choir loft. It serves as an earnest way for a choir to lead the faithful in acknowledging their need for God's grace at the start of the Eucharistic celebration.
