ONYENWANYI MEE EBERE

"Onyenwanyi Mee Ebere" is a deeply felt setting of the Kyrie for the Penitential Rite, sung in Igbo. Composed by Rev. Fr. Okwy Tony Umeh, the piece takes the standard liturgical plea for mercy and infuses it with a profound sense of local devotion. The addition of words like "biko" (please) and the soothing particle "doo" transforms the formal prayer into an intimate, earnest cry from the congregation to God.

During Mass, this is the moment the choir leads the people in acknowledging their human frailty before the celebration of the Eucharist begins. The melody carries a gentle, quasi-allegro pacing that keeps the prayer moving forward with hope rather than despair.
