Oba Ogo!

"Oba Ogo!" is a vibrant Yoruba anthem of praise that calls the choir and congregation to lift their voices to the King of Glory. Alex Ugwu’s composition is built on a foundation of deep gratitude, capturing the essence of a heart that chooses to praise God in every season. The lyrics beautifully declare that whether times are good or difficult, the Lord remains present, giving us a reason to sing, drum, and dance.

In the choir loft, this piece shines brightest during the Offertory or as a joyful Recessional. The second verse is especially moving, as it rolls through the mighty, traditional titles of God—calling Him Oyigiyigi (the great and mighty), Awimayehun (He who speaks and does not change His words), and Eledumare (God Almighty). As the tempo drives forward, the overlapping harmonies build an atmosphere of absolute celebration, making it a favorite for feast days and thanksgiving Masses.
