"NWATURU CHUKWU"

"Nwaturu Chukwu" is a reverent Igbo setting of the Agnus Dei, sung during the breaking of the bread at Mass. The title translates to "Lamb of God," and the piece carries the quiet, petitionary weight of the moment just before Communion. It is a time when the congregation looks toward the altar, asking for mercy and peace as the Eucharistic feast is prepared.

Arranged by Enyia Chijioke E., the score opens with a unison section that gathers the choir into a single voice. This unified melody delivers the first invocations, asking the Lord who takes away the sins of the world to have mercy ("Meere anyị ebere"). The simplicity of the unison line gives the prayer a grounded, chant-like sincerity.

For the final invocation, the music opens up into a full four-part harmony. The Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass voices layer together to deliver the closing plea for peace ("Nye anyị udo"). This shift from a single melodic line to a warm choral texture provides a gentle resolution, leaving the faithful centered and ready to receive the Eucharist.
