Muo Nso Gbadata by Charles Onwubuya — Lyrics
About Muo Nso Gbadata
"Muo Nso Gbadata" is a vibrant and earnest invocation of the Holy Spirit, widely sung by Nigerian Catholic choirs during Pentecost, Confirmations, or whenever the liturgy calls for a deep renewal of the Spirit's gifts. The title translates to a direct, heartfelt plea for the Holy Spirit to come down among the faithful. The opening chorus captures this beautifully by asking the heavens to open wide ("eligwe meghee"), immediately drawing the congregation into a posture of prayerful expectation and readiness to receive divine grace.
Charles Onwubuya’s arrangement moves with a joyful, Allegro tempo that perfectly reflects the lively, transformative nature of the Spirit. As the choir progresses through the verses, the mood shifts naturally from a gentle invitation into the individual heart ("bata ni m'obi mo") to an exuberant, communal call for dance and thanksgiving ("Gbabalu ya egwu"). The final verse crowns the piece with a doxology to the Holy Trinity, ending with a resounding, joyful affirmation. It is a wonderful choice for a lively Offertory or Recessional during the Easter season and Pentecost, leaving the faithful uplifted, comforted, and spiritually energized as they go forth.
