Medley of Light

"Medley of Light" is a highly creative and eclectic choral arrangement by Emre Matthew and Victus Eze. It weaves together three vastly different musical worlds into a single, continuous narrative, taking the listener on a journey from quiet devotion to thrilling, dramatic intensity.

The piece opens with the beloved 19th-century hymn "Blessed Assurance," led by a warm Soprano Solo. This familiar declaration of faith transitions seamlessly into a vibrant Yoruba section ("Imole wole wa!" — Light has entered!). Here, a Tenor Solo takes the lead, singing traditional Yoruba proverbs and praises to God ("Edumare Baba oke"), celebrating the arrival of divine light and wisdom with rhythmic energy.

In a striking and dramatic twist, the final section introduces the iconic, driving rhythms of "O Fortuna" from Carl Orff's Carmina Burana. The choir shifts to Latin, singing of fate and the turning wheel of fortune ("sors immanis et inanis rota tu volubilis"). This unexpected juxtaposition creates a powerful choral showcase, blending classic hymnody, Nigerian cultural expressions, and classical masterworks into a thrilling performance piece for advanced choirs.
