MASS AGUSIGO by SIR ADEJOH JOHN — Lyrics
About MASS AGUSIGO
"Mass Agusigo" is a lively, joyful recessional song that captures the exact moment the liturgy ends and the congregation is sent forth. Sung in Igbo, the title translates directly to "The Mass has ended," making it a perfect fit for the final procession as the priest and altar servers make their way down the aisle.
The lyrics are simple and highly rhythmic, built around the repeated phrases "Kanyi jebe jebe, kanyi lawa lawa" (Let us go, let us go home) and "ije awele" (safe journey). It calls on the "Umu Chineke" (children of God) to thank Him in joy ("n'uriba") for the grace received during the celebration. For a Nigerian Catholic choir, this is the kind of piece that gets the whole church moving. It doesn't just dismiss the people; it sends them out with a sense of communal celebration and a blessing for the road ahead.
Sir Adejoh John’s arrangement keeps the energy high and the harmonies accessible. The repetitive, call-and-response nature of the lines allows the congregation to easily join in, turning the end of the Mass into a shared, uplifting departure.
