MABOZA

"Maboza" is a vibrant Offertory hymn originating from the Zaire Use (Congolese Catholic liturgy), widely embraced by Nigerian choirs for its rhythmic and joyful procession. The piece is built on a lively call-and-response structure that immediately engages the congregation.

The lyrics, sung in Lingala, center on the presentation of gifts. The verses systematically offer the bread and wine ("mampa na vino"), alongside the prayers of the fathers ("ba papa"), mothers ("ba mama"), priests ("ba Sango"), and the youth ("ba bilenge") to the Father ("tata Oyamba").

During Mass, this piece naturally fits the Offertory procession. The arrangement features a distinct tenor solo before the full choir joins in the chorus, creating an uplifting atmosphere as the people bring forward their gifts to the altar.
