About Libera me
This setting of the traditional Requiem text, Libera me, Domine, opens with a profound sense of dread and trembling before the impending judgment. The composer paints a vivid sonic picture of the day of wrath, when the heavens and earth will be shaken by divine fire. The solo voice grapples with the fear and awe of this momentous occasion, before ultimately pleading for deliverance from eternal death. The music then transitions to a more hopeful plea for eternal rest and perpetual light for the departed, before returning to the solemn invocation of the opening. This powerful and evocative work is suitable for services commemorating the departed.
