La Turturella by Giacomo Gorzanis — Lyrics

About La Turturella

Giacomo Gorzanis composed this secular Italian madrigal for TTB voices. The text expresses the sorrow of a lonely turtledove mourning its lost mate, a lament the singer then adopts as his own. The bird's solitude in the forest, its distress and pensive thoughts of its absent beloved, and its avoidance of pleasant surroundings all mirror the singer's despair after losing his own comfort and desire. The music reflects this melancholic narrative, exploring the emotions of grief and longing.
