About Kyrie - Orbis Factor

The Kyrie, Orbis Factor, is an example of Gregorian chant, likely dating from the early medieval period. As a troped Kyrie, it expands on the traditional plea for mercy by incorporating additional textual and melodic material. The text, presented here in both Greek and Latin, consists of the fundamental petitions: Lord, have mercy; Christ, have mercy; Lord, have mercy. This setting is for unison voices, a common characteristic of early chant. Its structure and melodic style are typical of the liturgical music of the Roman Catholic Church during the Middle Ages, designed to be sung in a devotional context.
