KYRIE - MISSA GRATIA

"KYRIE - MISSA GRATIA" is a gentle and reverent setting of the Penitential Rite, composed by Ehilegbu Chinasa Christian. When we sing this at the beginning of Mass, right after the entrance procession, we are stepping into a moment of collective humility. The familiar Greek words—Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison—carry the congregation's plea for God's mercy and grace before we enter fully into the Liturgy of the Word.

This particular arrangement offers a smooth, flowing melody that allows the choir's voices to blend naturally. The Andante tempo gives the singers space to breathe and reflect on the weight of the prayer, setting a tone of quiet reverence for the rest of the celebration. As the composer reminds us at the bottom of the score, "He who sings well prays twice!"—and this piece truly invites the choir to pray deeply through their song.
