Kyrie in B flat, D45 by Franz Schubert — Lyrics
About Kyrie in B flat, D45
The plea Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, Kyrie eleison, forms the opening of the Mass Ordinary. This setting by Franz Schubert, for SATB choir, captures the heartfelt prayer of the text in its B flat major tonality. The sacred text, taken from the Greek Orthodox liturgy, is presented here in its original form and also in a Latin transliteration. This fragment from a larger Mass setting offers a concise and poignant musical expression of the immemorial supplication for mercy.
