About Kyrie - Fons bonitatis
This setting of the Kyrie is by an anonymous composer, dating from a period when the Mass text was frequently elaborated with newly composed tropes. The Latin text is a florid invocation of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit, each addressed with pleas for mercy. The composer crafts a three-part setting for treble voices (soprano, alto, tenor), employing the lyrical potential of the rhyming Latin prose. The music opens with the invocation of the Father as the source of all goodness, moving through appeals to Christ's redemptive sacrifice and the gifts of the Spirit, before returning to a final supplication to the Holy Spirit.
