KYRIE ELEISON

This setting of the "Kyrie Eleison" brings a deeply reflective mood to the Penitential Rite. Marked to be sung "remorsefully" in a gentle 3/4 time, the arrangement opens with a solitary voice calling out for mercy. The choir then answers, echoing the plea before expanding into a layered, harmonised response that gathers the voices of the faithful in collective contrition.

Arranged collaboratively by members of the VADC choir, the piece follows the traditional threefold invocation—Kyrie, Christe, Kyrie. The simple but effective call-and-response structure allows the congregation to internalise the prayer, making it a moving and accessible choice for the beginning of Mass, particularly during seasons like Lent or on days calling for a more sombre, contemplative opening.
