"Angus Dei :- Kimeme Masumu Yansi" is a vibrant, rhythmic setting of the Lamb of God originating from the Democratic Republic of Congo. Arranged for four parts by Vincent Obi, this piece brings the distinctive polyphony and joyful, driving energy of Central African liturgical music directly into the choir loft. It is a wonderful choice for choirs looking to introduce a dynamic, culturally resonant Agnus Dei into their repertoire.

Sung during the breaking of the bread, the arrangement relies on a beautifully layered call-and-response structure. The bass section opens the prayer alone, establishing the groove with the repeated phrase "Kimeme masumu yansi" (Lamb of God, who takes away the sins of the world). Soon after, the upper voices enter with the soaring, bright call of "E Kimeme ya Ki," weaving together in tight, rhythmic harmony.

As the piece moves toward its conclusion, it shifts into a syncopated plea. Following the performance notes on the score, the choir sings "Fila beto, kenda" (have mercy on us) for the first two invocations, before changing to "Pesa beto, kenda" (grant us peace) for the third and final time. It is a deeply moving setting that invites the entire congregation into a heartfelt prayer for mercy and peace before Communion.
