About Jesu mi in cruce
This deeply moving sacred motet for SATB choir sets a Latin text of profound suffering. It depicts the Virgin Mary at the foot of the cross, her sorrow overwhelming as she witnesses her crucified son. The text vividly portrays her agony, her desire to become one with his sacrifice, and her initial plea for oblivion. Yet, at a divine prompting, she accepts God's will, finding a quiet resignation. Mariano Garau’s setting would be particularly fitting for Tenebrae services or other liturgical occasions during Holy Week, offering a powerful expression of both Mary’s grief and her ultimate faith.
