Jesu Abia, Ñua Nu Oñu!

"Jesu Abia, Ñua Nu Oñu!" is a vibrant and deeply rhythmic choral piece adapted by Laz Ekwueme from a traditional Efik folk melody. Sung in Igbo, the title translates to a joyous announcement: Jesus is coming, rejoice! The arrangement captures the festive energy of a community welcoming their King. What makes this piece instantly memorable is its driving, percussive vocal line—"Tigidim, Tigidim, Tigidim, bom!"—which mimics the heartbeat of traditional drums right inside the choir loft.

The lyrics call the faithful to crown the Lord ("Kpunye Ya okpu eze") and praise Jehovah, the King of Peace ("Eze Ez'udo"). Because it focuses so strongly on the arrival of the Saviour and the joyful response of the people, choirs often sing it during Advent as a lively song of anticipation, or as a grand Entrance hymn to lift the congregation's spirits at the start of Mass. It is a true celebration of faith, blending indigenous musical roots with choral worship to create a sound that moves both the singers and the assembly.
