About Jerusalem surge, et exue
This setting of a powerful Tenebrae responsory is by Ludovico da Viadana. The SATB voices convey the urgent plea for Jerusalem to shed its garments of joy and don the sackcloth and ashes of mourning, in recognition of the Saviour's sacrifice. The text laments the death of Israel's Saviour, calling for unceasing tears day and night.
