About J'endure tout
Clément Janequin's chanson J'endure tout paints a scene of utter devotion to a beloved. The speaker endures all, with reason, as their beloved wishes, in every place and at all times. They give themselves over entirely to pleasing their lover. Even if others marvel and question the wisdom of loving what this one beloved provides, the speaker insists that such love is only right, especially if the other person is as patient as they are. This four-voice (SATT) setting of the French text captures the intimate and earnest sentiments of the lover.
