About Jefferson
Eliakim Doolittle's Jefferson is a setting for SATB choir of a text drawn from Psalm 101. The Latin verses speak of justice and integrity, of shunning the proud and the deceitful. The composer offers a rich, traditional harmonic language to convey the solemnity and devotional character of the psalm. Doolittle provides a work that draws on established sacred musical practice, suitable for liturgical use or concert programming where such devotional music is appreciated. The SATB voicing allows for a full and resonant sound, appropriate to the scriptural source material. The piece moves with a steady, considered pace, reflecting the gravity of the text.
