In notte placida by François Couperin — Lyrics
In notte placida, per muto sentier,
dai campi da cieli scese l'Amor;
dell'alme fedeli il Redentor.
Nell'aura è il palpito d'un grande mister;
del nuovo Israello nato è il Signor,
il fiore più bello dei nostri fior.
Cantate popoli, gloria all'Altissimo!

About In notte placida
As Christmas approaches, this Italian setting of a sacred text offers a moment of quiet contemplation and joyful adoration. Couperin’s In notte placida sets words that speak of love descending from heaven to the faithful, announcing the Redeemer and the Lord’s birth. The choir, in four parts SATB, brings to life the wonder of the Nativity, inviting the listener to open their hearts to hope and love. The text offers a tender invitation to the infant Jesus to rest in the singer’s heart, a heartfelt offering of devotion amidst the coldness of the night.
