Salamone Rossi was a highly regarded composer of the early Baroque period, active in Mantua. In dolci lacci is a secular madrigal for SATB voices, sung in Italian. The text expresses the delightful paradox of being consumed by love: the singer is slowly melting away in sweet chains and a gentle fire, experiencing so much joy amidst pain and torment that they can only sing of love's enduring power, which burns within their heart.
