The inability to see the divine face, a torment of hell, is the subject of this Italian madrigal for ATB voices. The soul is left suffering in pain and sorrow, and the poet, deprived of the face of his beloved, experiences hell even before death. This absence brings eternal suffering in both life and death. Jhan Gero's setting captures the profound anguish of the text, exploring the despair of separation through its intricate vocal lines.
