About Il est jour
Claudin de Sermisy was a leading composer of French chansons in the early 16th century. Il est jour is a fine example of his secular part-music. The text, sung here in French, describes a young woman's lament that she has been married off to an unattractive, jealous man who is incapable of pleasing her. The composer captures her frustration with light, nimble vocal writing. This edition is suitable for SATB and TTBB choirs, offering flexibility in performance.
