Ihr Kinderlein kommet by Johann Abraham Peter Schulz| (1747-1800) — Lyrics
Ihr Kinderlein, kommet, o kommet doch all!
Zur Krippe her kommet in Bethlehems Stall
und seht, was in dieser hochheiligen Nacht
der Vater im Himmel für Freude uns macht!
O seht in der Krippe im nächtlichen Stall,
seht hier bei des Lichtleins hell glänzendem Strahl

About Ihr Kinderlein kommet
This German carol, Ihr Kinderlein kommet, is a staple of the Christmas season. Its text invites children and all to come to the manger in Bethlehem to witness the joy provided by God for us on this holy night. The music reflects the simple, tender scene of the nativity, with Mary and Joseph gazing at the Christ child, while shepherds kneel in prayer and a choir of angels sings from above. Johann Abraham Peter Schulz’s setting is for SATB choir, offering a warm and accessible arrangement of this deeply cherished Christmas text. It is a perfect choice for services and concerts during Advent and on Christmas Day.
