IHA OGH'EKPONWEN (Consecration Hymn)

"Iha Ogh'ekponwen" is a deeply reverent Edo Catholic hymn composed by Desmond Oriakogba, Georges Diffo, and Lucia Isibor. Written specifically for the Consecration and the Offertory, the song captures the solemnity of the Eucharistic sacrifice. The title points to a hymn of thanksgiving, drawing the congregation into the sacred mystery of the Mass as the gifts are prepared and offered at the altar.

The lyrics speak directly of approaching God with the gifts of the earth, singing "Ma bu rue vbe bredi vbayon ee" (We come to you with bread and wine) and kneeling before Him in thanksgiving ("Ma di gue sira rue"). It calls upon the Holy Trinity—God the Father (Osanerha), God the Son (Osa nomo), and the Holy Spirit—asking for peace, guidance, and the acceptance of the choir and congregation's offerings.
