If ye be risen again with Christ

Orlando Gibbons draws on a powerful biblical text, urging the listener to focus on the spiritual rather than the earthly. The words speak of resurrection and heavenly glory, a life hidden with Christ in God. This SSATB anthem is a fine example of English sacred music from the Jacobean era, suitable for services and concerts. Gibbons's masterful setting of these verses from Colossians employs his characteristic blend of harmonic richness and melodic clarity. The rich five-part texture allows for moments of both intimate reflection and soaring affirmation, beautifully conveying the profound message of the text.
