Iesus Rex admirabilis by Giovanni Battista Riccio — Lyrics
Jesu, Rex admirabilis
Et triumphator nobilis
Dulcedo ineffabilis
Totus desiderabilis.
Mane nobiscum Domine
Et nos illustra lumine
Pulsa mentis caligine
Mundum reple dulcedine.
Te saeculorum Principem,
Te, Christe, regem gentium,

About Iesus Rex admirabilis
This sacred Latin motet, Iesus Rex admirabilis, offers a devotional text suitable for reflection or prayer, particularly during periods of intense faith. Giovanni Battista Riccio has set these words for an unaccompanied voice. The text expresses deep adoration for Jesus, acknowledging Him as a noble conqueror, an ineffable sweetness, and the one desired above all. It pleads for His presence to illuminate the mind and fill the world with His sweetness, recognizing Him as the Prince of ages and the sole arbiter of minds and hearts. The later verses articulate a longing for Jesus, a constant love that brings a sweet languor, and an ardent desire that burns in the heart.
